Australia - Even The Kangaroos Battle The Snow

Winter is the time of the year when the days are shorter, the nights are longer and we experience cooler temperatures.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Winter is the Yin time of the year. Our Qi or energy is turned inwards and it is time for hibernation and time to nurture oneself. It is a time to take a stocktake of our lives. We can allow ourselves to sleep longer and deeper, to rest and move at a less frenetic pace.   Read More ...

Yin & Yang

Winter is an opportunity to slow down, to take time for yourself and a time for reflection. A state of mindfulness is a perfect mode for the season. Indoor activities like reading, knitting, sewing, cooking etc can be pursued. Family time and conversation move to the forefront.

Engaging in light activities is encouraged. Going for walks, practising yoga and qi gong are ideal. As the weather is cooler, one should prepare and protect from the environment. Keep rugged up especially keeping you head and neck warm. Keeping your feet warm protects the Kidney energy which is most active in Winter.

Eating warming and nourishing foods like stews, casseroles, soups, broths and roasted meats and vegetables are ideal for Winter. Root vegetables are in season making them a perfect addition to your meals. Seasonal fruits from the citrus family are usually available - oranges, lemons, mandarins. Warm drinks would be the preferred option.

If we live according to the season, we can easily adapt to seasonal changes. Our health stays on an even keel and physically and psychologically, we can adapt to new and different situations.
